Bassetlaw District - Local Plan Review
New Plan Adopted in 2024 but an early review and Call for Sites is now expected in 2025.
The Bassetlaw Local Plan was adopted by the Council on 29 May 2024. It replaced the Bassetlaw Core Strategy and Development Management Policies DPD (2011).
This plan remains the current Local Plan for the area, however, it is widely anticipated that an early review will be announced very soon, with further details below.
Do you own land in Bassetlaw? If so, here's what you need to do and what is expected next...
Bassetlaw District Council have not yet confirmed how they intend to respond to the wide-reaching changes to the planning system recently announced by the Government in autumn 2024. Despite the Local Plan having only been adopted earlier in the year, it will soon become partially out of date as a result of these new changes because of the new mandatory housing targets, which are significantly higher than the 2024 Local Plan makes provision for.
Our team have been busy meeting with clients, developers and landowners alike to discuss how to effectively promote their sites and to ensure they are ready. Perhaps most significant amongst the proposed changes are new mandatory housing targets and NPPF revisions that will provide better support for housebuilding in all areas, including potential amendments to Green Belt controls.
What is the timescale? Following consultation over the autumn, the Government have recently advised that they intend to introduce the changes from late January 2025. This might change, so check back for regular updates or contact our team today.
What do you need to do? Be ready! High-quality, effective and reliable planning representation is vital. Sites need to be promoted in the right way, and at the right time. The window of opportunity in each area is normally very short and strict, so preparation is key.
